Thanks to the vision of Velma V. Morrison, the Center’s Volunteer Organization was formed in 1984 in preparation for the grand opening.
The Mission of the Morrison Center Volunteers is to promote and expand awareness of the facility and to provide support services to the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. To do this, the Volunteers provide ushers, ticket takers, guides, refreshments, a gift shop, hearing assistance, floral arrangements and receptions for the patrons. These activities produce financial support for the Morrison Center, as well as many thousands of hours of dedicated volunteer work.
The Morrison Center Volunteers produce their own Membership Directory, publish a quarterly newsletter (The Curtain Call) and host several social events.
If you would like to become a Morrison Center Volunteer, please print, complete and mail in a Membership Application. You will be required to complete an orientation, including applicable dues and then you will be ready start volunteering!
Volunteer New Member Coffee
Meet new people, give back to the community, be a part of a great organization! Become a volunteer usher at the Morrison Center. Come to a New Volunteer Coffee at the Morrison Center on Tuesday, August 21, at 6:00 PM. Enter the doors on the river side of the building. Park in the parking garage (you will have to pay). Come join a great group of volunteers!
The Morrison Center Volunteers give countless hours of service so that the patrons have a first class experience when they attend any performance at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. You will see our Volunteers welcoming patrons with helpful attitudes, smiling faces, and friendly interactions.
We are there to provide many different services. We scan tickets, guide patrons, usher at the theater doors, coat check, provide hearing assistance devices, serve refreshments, staff the Gift Shop, and generally provide any duty needed for each performance. Some of our Volunteers work several times a month, and others work only a few times a month. All of our Volunteers strive to work enough to cover all the needs of the Morrison Center. We have a very special group of Volunteers, and we are always willing to accept more Volunteers.
Velma Morrison began our organization and set our direction in 1984 when the first performance was held. She called us “Her Angels”, and even today, we are known as “Velma’s Angels.” Her vision was that the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts would be the “People’s theater.” Our Volunteers strive to help the staff live up to that vision each and every performance.
Again this year, we have an outstanding schedule of shows and events. We all are looking forward to another year of helping to make each patron’s experience the best possible. We are truly lucky to volunteer at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts that is rated the number 2 University Venue in the Nation.
I thank all the Morrison Center Volunteers for electing me as your President for the 2017-2018 performance year. We have an outstanding Board of Directors and many talented Chairpersons who will help to make our year a super one! I am looking forward to working with not only the Board and Chairpersons, but all of our “special” volunteers.
